The current panoramic exhibition by Berlin artist Yadegar Asisi takes you back in time to the small French town of Rouen at the end of the 19th century. The Panorama
With the 32 metre high 360° panorama "THE CATHEDRAL OF MONET - Freedom of Painting", Yadegar Asisi invites you on a picturesque journey to the French city of Rouen around 1890. The focus is on the city's impressive cathedral, which was immortalised by the painter Claude Monet in a series of 33 paintings. Inspired by this, Asisi created his first painted panorama on a canvas measuring 6 x 2 metres (in impressionist style) - which was subsequently digitised and enlarged to an impressive 32 × 110 metres for the Panometer Leipzig.
The circular picture shows the typical everyday life of the time: residents stroll through the alleyways in front of the cathedral, the first tram can be seen, traders sell their goods. At the same time, numerous painters of the era - such as van Gogh, Renoir and Monet - are hidden in the 360° artwork. Background noises and music that reflect the atmosphere of the late 19th century as well as a day and night light simulation bring France's past to life. Viewing takes place at ground level or from the various levels of the 15 metre high visitor platform.

The accompanying exhibition
Anyone who has already seen a panorama by Yadegar Asisi in Leipzig knows that the exhibition experience is always rounded off with a multimedia exhibition and a concluding film (approx. 30 minutes). In the current accompanying exhibition, he is now opening up his studio for the first time and providing a glimpse into his personal workshop with over 200 works from more than 30 years of artistic creation.
New techniques, such as the development of the camera in the 19th century, have massively changed the art world in the past and led to new freedoms and styles in art, such as Impressionism with its colours, play of light and shadow. Today, something similar is happening with the advent of artificial intelligence (AI). However, instead of feeling threatened by this, Yadegar Asisi has always utilised technological advances to incorporate them into his artistic work. The accompanying exhibition illustrates this interaction between painting and technology in a captivating way.

The painter
Yadegar Asisi has been realising the world's largest 360° panoramas since 2003. Following the success of the first panorama exhibition over 20 years ago in Leipzig - 8848 EVEREST - Asisi's 360° artworks can currently be viewed at a total of 6 locations in Germany, including Dresden and Berlin.
Born in Vienna in 1955, the Persian-born artist studied painting and architecture in Dresden and Berlin and discovered his passion for panoramic art in the early 1990s. At the same time, he has been painting for over 30 years and shares his passion for painting with anyone who wants to learn to paint on his Youtube channel.
The museum
"When a panorama meets a gasometer, then a gasometer becomes a panometer." - The success story of Yadegar Asisi's panoramas began back in 2003 in Leipzig. Asisi's first panorama - 8848 EVEREST - was shown in a converted gasometer.
After a sensational success with visitors, the location developed into the artist's first exhibition centre. Since then, popular panoramas such as AMAZONIA, LEIPZIG 1813 and TITANIC have been on display at the Panometer Leipzig. The current panorama THE CATHEDRAL OF MONET is expected to be on display at Panometer Leipzig for 1.5 years.

Guided tours & events
You can visit the Panometer Leipzig either individually or as part of a public guided tour. These take place daily at 11am and 12pm and at 2pm and 3pm without prior registration (45 minutes, €4 plus admission). Guided tours can also be booked exclusively in German (€65) and English (€70) via service@panometer.de. Children receive a free puzzle rally to accompany their visit to the exhibition.
The Panometer also offers other guided tour formats, such as family tours (every Saturday at 10.30 a.m. from May 2024) or our popular culinary tour "Sinnlicher Spaziergang" (every 2nd Saturday at 2.30 p.m. from 25 May, advance booking required). (Only in German)
